About Us
YUMI Education Inc is a registered charity. It was established by the members of the Torres Strait Islanders’ Regional Education Council (TSIREC) as an integrated service provider.
YUMI Education Inc works to deliver support and sponsorship to community-endorsed services that align with the Torres Strait’s vision for YUMI Education.
What We Do
Since 2012, YUMI Education has been working with children, families, schools and communities to provide the support and services needed by the Torres Strait nation and its key service providers.
Over time, we have expanded our scope of services to respond to the emerging needs of the Torres Strait.
Our work can be divided across three areas:
Strait START - the early years
Strait SMART - school engagement
Strait STRONG - local capacity development
Our Charter
YUMI is supported in our work by TSIREC - the leading advocacy body on Education and Training in the Torres Strait.
YUMI Education Inc. aims to ensure all young people in the Torres Strait achieve a “Prapa Pathway” – starting with the best early childhood education, moving seamlessly through school, training and/or university study to secure a quality job.
We work to find community-owned solutions that:
Facilitate a breadth of locally managed services.
Reflect the needs of the Torres Strait community and education, training and employment service providers.
Promote activities of best practice in education, training and employment service delivery.
Foster constructive collaboration between community representatives and service providers.
